Thomson Scientific Enhances Life Sciences Portfolio on Dialog with BIOSIS and Zoological Record Archive

BIOSIS Archive Now Extends to 1926, Zoological Record to 1864

Cary, NC USA (June 14, 2007)

Thomson Scientific, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and leading provider of information solutions to the worldwide research and business communities, today announced it has added more than 40 years of archived life sciences research to its BIOSIS Previews® database on the Dialog® and DataStar® platforms, and more than 100 years of data to its Zoological Record® database on Dialog.

“The archived information now available in BIOSIS and Zoological Record offers valuable historic data, and provides important perspective for ongoing biological research,” said Geoffrey Dick, Director of Publisher Management, Thomson Scientific. “The addition of both archives gives life sciences researchers the most complete collection of life sciences in the world.”

The new BIOSIS® Archive adds approximately 1.8 million records of BIOSIS life sciences data covering the period 1926 to 1968, and includes journals, conference reports, patents and books. BIOSIS Previews, produced by Thomson Scientific, is the world's most comprehensive reference database for life science research. Coverage includes botany, zoology, microbiology, biomedical, agriculture, pharmacology and ecology data.

The archive data for BIOSIS is available as part of the BIOSIS Previews database (File 5 on Dialog and BIZZ on DataStar), or as a stand-alone file (File 552 on Dialog), covering just 1926 to 1968. A second new file (File 525 on Dialog, BIXX on DataStar) is available covering only the most recent data — 1969 to the present.

Zoological Record®, also produced by Thomson Scientific, gives researchers more than a century of information about all aspects of animal biology, paleobiology and zoology, and includes living organisms, fossil species. With coverage now dating back to 1864, this database provides the original description of many animal species, as well as subsequent nomenclature changes. The 1.5 million records of archive data are available in Zoological Record Online (File 185) on Dialog.
